Indications
1. Secondary prevention of myocardial infarction.
2. Prevention of cardiovascular morbidity in patients suffering from stable angina pectoris. History of unstable angina pectoris, except during the acute phase.
3. Prevention of graft occlusion after Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG).
4. Coronary angioplasty, except during the acute phase; Acute Myocardial infarction
5. Secondary prevention of transient ischaemic attacks (TIA) and ischaemic cerebrovascular accidents (CVA), provided intracerebral haemorrhages have been ruled out.
Dosage and Administration
Usage: Oral.
The usual dosage, for long-term use, is 75mg-150mg once daily. In some circumstances a higher dose may be appropriate, especially in the short term, and up to 300mg a day may be used on the advice of a doctor. In general, acetylsalicylic acids should be used with caution in elderly patients who are more prone to adverse events. The usual adult dose is recommended in the absence of severe renal or hepatic insufficiency. Treatment should be reviewed at regular intervals.
Children: Aspirin 75mg Tablet is not indicated in children and young people aged 0 to 16 years.
Precautions & Warning:
1.Patients with limited renal function or limited cardiovascular function (such as renal vessel disease, congestive heart failure, volume depletion, major surgeries, sepsis, or major bleeding).
2.Hepatic insufficiency.
3.concomitant administration of ibuprofen; ibuprofen can affect the thrombocyte aggregation inhibitory effect of acetylsalicylic acid.
4.presence of chronic or relapsed stomach or duodenal symptoms.
5.Presence of bronchial asthma or general tendency of hypersensitivity
6.In patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency, as acetylsalicylic acid might induce haemolysis or haemolytic anaemia.
7.concomitant treatment with anticoagulants.
8.Due to the inhibitory effect on platelet aggregation and the prolongation of the bleeding time lasting several days after intake of acetylsalicylic acid, increased bleeding tendency may occur, particularly during and after surgical operations (including minor surgeries, e.g., dental extractions).
Contraindications:
1.Hypersensitivity to salicylic acid compounds or prostaglandin synthetase inhibitors (e.g. certain asthma patients who may suffer an attack or faint and certain patients who may suffer from bronchospasm, rhinitis and urticaria), or to any of the excipients.
2.Active, or history of recurrent peptic ulcer and/or gastric/intestinal haemorrhage, or other kinds of bleeding such as cerebrovascular haemorrhages.
3.Haemorrhagic diathesis; coagulation disorders such as haemophilia and thrombocytopenia Patients who are suffering from gout.
4.Severe hepatic impairment.
5.Severe renal impairment.
6.Doses >100 mg/day during the third trimester of pregnancy.
7.Methotrexate used at doses >15mg/week.
Adverse Reactions:
1. Blood and lymphatic system disorders: Increased bleeding tendencies; Thrombocytopenia; granulocytosis; aplastic anaemia.
2. Immune system disorders: Hypersensitivity reactions, angio-oedema, allergic oedema, anaphylactic reactions including shock.
3. Nervous system disorders: Intracranial haemorrhage.
4. Vascular disorders: Hemorrhagic vasculitis.
5. Gastrointestinal disorders: Dyspepsia.
